The phone rings at FBI headquarters. "Hello?" "Hello, is this the FBI?" "Yes. What do you want?" "I'm calling to report my neighbor Adrian Thibodeaux! He is hiding marijuana inside his firewood." "Thank you very much for the call, sir." The next day, the FBI agents descend on Thibodeaux's house. They search the shed where the firewood is kept. Using axes, they bust open every piece of wood, but find no marijuana. They swear at Thibodeaux and leave. The phone rings at Thibodeaux's house. "Hey, Adrian! Did the FBI come?" "Yeah!" "Did they chop your firewood?" "Yep" "Great, now it's your turn to call. I need my garden plowed." 0 comments ![]() ![]() dreamed of racing on 9:26 pm <-------------------------------------------------------> Wednesday, 1 September 2004 There was a stonecutter who saw a rich man. Envious of his wealth, he suddenly became the rich man. As he was travelling in his carriage, it had to stop to let an official go first. Envious of his status, he suddenly became the official. As he travelled on, he felt hot from the heat of the sun. Envious of its glory, he suddenly became the sun. As he was shining on, a huge dark cloud covered him. Envious, he suddenly became the cloud. As he was floating in the sky, the wind pushed him along. Envious of its power, he suddenly became the wind. As he was drifting on, he was forced to go around a mountain. Envious of its strength, he suddenly became the mountain. As he was sitting satisfied, he felt something chipping him. Shocked, he suddenly awoke to be the stonecutter he was. It had all been part of an enlightening dream. Moral of the Story: Because we are all interconnected in interdependence, there is no one truly superior or inferior. The way you are in the worldly (not spiritual) sense is fine until you compare. Thus the Buddha taught, "Contentment is the greatest wealth." The pursuit for gain, fame, praise and pleasure is endless and ultimately pointless as the wheel of fortune (or rather, karma) keeps turning, alternating with their opposites of loss, defame, blame and pain. Together, these are the eight worldly conditions, which we are subjected to as long as we live in this world. The path to happiness lies in being able to cultivate a mind with equanimity, which renounces the worldly conditions, and abides in the Middle Way of balance. Incidentally, it is with an equanimous mind that one is likelier to achieve gain, fame, praise and pleasure. While there is nothing wrong with enjoying being rich and famous, being praised and living luxuriously, one who is wise lives without attachment to the eight conditions and rises above them, realising that True Happiness is unconditioned by anything in the perfect bliss of Enlightenment. 0 comments ![]() ![]() dreamed of racing on 12:20 pm <-------------------------------------------------------> |

"There are some people who meet that somebody that they can never stop loving, no matter how hard they try. I wouldn't expect you to understand that, or even believe it, but trust me; there are just some loves that don't go away. And maybe that makes them crazy, but we should all be lucky enough to end up with someone who has a little bit of that craziness. Someone who never lets go. Someone who cherishes you forever." - Ally McBeal unique moonlighters |
