![]() The following are PETA's top 10 reasons not to drink milk: 1) Cows are not milk machines. After years of living in filthy conditions, being kept constantly pregnant, and being forced to produce 10 times more milk than they naturally would, dairy cows are slaughtered. 2) "Moo" is not your first language. Human babies don't say "goo goo moo moo", so why treat them like calves? Humans are the only animals who drink breast milk after infancy and the only animals who drink milk from a different species. It makes as much sense for people to drink cow's milk as it would for dogs to drink giraffe's milk! 3) Cookies and cramps don't mix. Studies show that over 75 percent of the world's population is lactose-intolerant. Can you say abdominal cramps, bloating, and diarrhea? 4) Dairy is pus-itively scary. There's more to that glass of milk than you think. Dairy products are commonly contaminated with blood, pus, pesticides, hormones, and antibiotics. 5) There's veal in your cereal. Milk fuels the cruel veal industry. Considered byproducts of the dairy industry, male calves are dragged away to veal crates when they are just hours old. 6) Milk is bad to the bone. Contrary to a popular milky myth, studies strongly implicate dairy in causing, rather than preventing, osteoporosis, because its high protein content leeches calcium from the body. 7) Milk does the planet bad. Bad for mother cows, milk production is also bad for Mother Earth; it's a disastrous source of water pollution. Just one dairy cow produces 120 pounds of waste every day—as much as two dozen people could produce—but with no toilets, sewers, or treatment plants. 8 ) The white stuff isn’t the right stuff. Milk is formulated to meet the nutritional needs of calves—who have four stomachs and gain an average of 115 kg in their first six months. It's mad for humans to chug moo-juice! 9) No grain means lots of pain. Every glass of milk takes a meal away from the hungry. Crops that could be used to feed the hungry are instead used to feed dairy cows. It takes a huge amount of grain cycled through cows to produce a very small amount of milk. 10) A milk mustache is a real heartbreaker. Devoid of fiber and complex carbohydrates but loaded with saturated fat and cholesterol, dairy products have been linked to heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. All cow's milk—whether it's poisoned with melamine or not—is an unhealthy mix of contaminants, cholesterol, and fat. The best bet for people who care about their health is to switch to healthy and humane soy, rice, or almond milk and give dairy products the boot. And it cost him $200 - equivalent to a comfortable night's stay in a three-star hotel complete with a soft bed and fluffy pillows. He had dozed off on a Sun Plaza Park bench while taking shelter from the rain. For doing so, the 62-year-old private bus driver, who wanted to be known only as Mr Kassim, was fined $200 by the National Parks Board (NParks). The agency said Mr Kassim had misused the park facility by sleeping on the bench. On 1 Sep this year, Mr Kassim was cycling near the park in Tampines when it began to drizzle. He decided to wait out the rain in a shelter at the park. It was pouring heavily by the time he reached the shelter, so he lay down on one of the wooden benches, and dozed off after about five minutes. 'About 15 minutes later, I opened my eyes and saw that the rain was about to stop,' Mr Kassim told The New Paper. 'I saw two men walking towards me. I didn't know who they were. I closed my eyes again. 'Then I heard someone shouting, 'Wake up, wake up!' in Malay.' When Mr Kassim opened his eyes, he saw the two men towering over him. They identified themselves as NParks rangers. They asked for his identity card, which he gave to them. But Mr Kassim was puzzled. 'I asked them, 'What have I done wrong?' 'They told me I had abused park facilities by sleeping on the park bench. They then issued me a ticket.' Mr Kassim did not know that it was an offence to sleep on a park bench. But he accepted the ticket. An NParks spokesman told The New Paper that Mr Kassim was fined as he 'was found sleeping in the park shelter with his colleague, and had repeatedly ignored our ranger's actions to wake him up'. But Mr Kassim claimed that he woke up as soon as the rangers told him to, and that he was at the park alone. He said there was another man also sleeping on another bench in the same shelter, but he did not know the man. He claimed that the rangers approached the man and another man who was lying on the bench in the opposite shelter. 'It was the first time I'd fallen asleep in Sun Plaza Park,' said Mr Kassim, who lives in Pasir Ris. It was also his first time at Sun Plaza Park. 'I've fallen asleep on benches in Pasir Ris Park before and nothing happened to me,' he said. Five days after he was issued the ticket, Mr Kassim received a letter from NParks detailing his offence and asking him to pay the $200 fine. When he went down to the NParks office to pay the fine, he claimed that he was told by a staff member that he could appeal. Mr Kassim decided against appealing. It was too much trouble, he said. He called The New Paper because he wanted to warn others about this little-known rule, lest they be fined too. 'I think most people don't know this. I'm the unlucky one, so I want to tell people not to sleep in parks, or they may end up like me having to pay $200,' he said with a laugh. The New Paper asked eight regular park-goers if they knew that sleeping on park benches was an offence. None was aware. The NParks spokesman said: 'We try to create the conditions that make visitors feel at ease when they come to our parks. When people abuse our parks by overstaying or squatting, they make genuine park users feel uncomfortable. 'Others sleep on benches or in shelters in an inconsiderate manner and deny park users from using these facilities. 'During their daily patrols, our rangers will advise people who sleep or squat in our parks to stop misusing our park facilities.' Since June this year, more than 10 people have been fined for misusing the facilities in the parks, the spokesman added. He did not say if these specifically involved sleeping on park benches. But Mr Kassim pointed out that if sleeping on park benches was an offence, there should be signs to tell people. On the NParks website, there is a list of 'Dos' and 'Don'ts' for visiting parks. Sleeping on a park bench was not among the 'Don'ts', though there is a disclaimer which said the list was 'not exhaustive or intended to be a complete list of the prohibitions or regulations governing our parks'. It also stated that 'any omission does not constitute a waiver of any offence'. Park visitors can refer to the Parks and Trees Act 2005 and the Parks and Trees Regulations 2005, the website said. what a 'fine' country we have.. i bet the world is laughing at us for having the most expensive park to sleep in.. sorry, to nap for 15 minutes.. 0 comments ![]() ![]() dreamed of racing on 12:24 pm <-------------------------------------------------------> Saturday, 18 October 2008 Joke of The Month Deadly Food - Old Folks Are Funny Too A Doctor addressing a large audience said: "The material we put into our stomachs is enough to have killed most of us sitting here, years ago. Red meat is awful. Soft drinks corrode your stomach lining. Chinese food is loaded with MSG. High fat diets can be disastrous, and none of us realizes the long- term harm caused by the germs in our drinking water. The 32-year-old woman, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the boy, was produced in a district court last month. The alleged offences took place over a two-month period between March 10 and May 8 this year. Under the Penal Code, any person convicted of sexual penetration of a minor under 16 can be jailed for up to 10 years or fined, or both. The woman, who is represented by Senior Counsel Sant Singh, will be back in court on Nov 7 for a pre-trial conference. – THE STRAITS TIMES its indeed the 1st case of female having sex with an underage in singapore.. if this is the case for man, at least a dozen strokes of canes accompany the sentence.. what if the victim is not 15, but 25? and the 32 years old woman call rape? haha.. the sexual law is biased.. nowaday most of the school teachers only worked to climbed up the ladder.. how many really have passions to teach and care for the students? the education system is juz as bad as well.. no one is emphasising the kids to be a good moral valued person but to survive and compete in the society.. youngsters are indeed getting bad to worse over the generations.. happy bithday to wx.. 0 comments ![]() ![]() dreamed of racing on 10:24 am <-------------------------------------------------------> Wednesday, 15 October 2008 Invest in people, not stocks TURN the pages of any newspaper, log on to any news portal, tune in to any news channel, and chances are you will be inundated with stories of the economic meltdown in the United States. This is one event which has extremely serious repercussions on the whole world. Asia has not been spared from this financial tsunami. Stock markets have been battered and bruised, investor confidence is at an all-time low and staff layoffs are expected. The current economy has been both shaken and stirred. What lies ahead is anyone’s guess. Have we reached the bottom of the spiral? Have we seen the worst of it yet? Or is this the dreaded storm before the massive quake? Well, I am certainly no crystal ball-gazer but one thing I know for sure: My investment is not in stocks or bonds, but in the people around me. These include my family members, my relatives, my friends, my colleagues, my church mates, my golf partners, my tennis pals, my drinking kakis – the list goes on. This circle of family and friends is, by far, the most treasured possession I have. They are more important to me than any investment I have made. For many of us, our human nature has been so badly tainted by the values of the world that our priorities have become somewhat warped. Blogger Randy Robison shares an example of this. He said: "If I spotted a $20 bill in the gutter, I’d stop and pick it up. But I have passed right by a person lying in the gutter without any second thought." When I first read that, it jolted me into reassessing the things in my life that matter most. I realised that, unconsciously, many of us tend to take our lives for granted and before we know it, would have thrown a good 20 years or more into merely building our careers and bank accounts. Although you may think that you can gain much as a result of this "investment", in actual fact, you would have lost. You could lose the opportunity to cultivate your marriage and see it bloom into a fulfilling relationship. You could lose the valuable chance to relate and bond with your children in their growingup years. You could also lose many moments of connecting with your friends, and miss having these regular encounters grow into lasting comradeships. And, just when you have attained all that wealth and success, your kids would have grown up, leaving you with an "empty nest". Along with that, your relationship with your spouse may have been strained beyond the point of remedy, and your genuine friends may number fewer than the fingers on one hand. It’s sad, but for many of us, it’s true. That is why if you want to be rich, invest in the people around you. There is nothing better than depositing your time, effort, concern and love into someone’s life. Therein lies the real treasure. The lasting relationships created will pay you greater dividends than any stock you can possibly invest in. Hold these things close to your heart, and you will truly prosper. by Geoff Tan, My Paper well, i bet you'd come across people who are so hardworking, working every single day in a week.. mum likes these people.. she think that one should worked as hard as he can when he's still able to.. im thinking otherwise.. i may not have invested in alot of poeple like Geoff, but i invest time in myself.. since after i quitted helping dad in his biz, i told myself "No more weekend job.." to work when your friends are partying and rest when your friends are working is horrigeble.. so i went back to 9-5 working only on weekdays.. weekday night is for my friends and weekend is for me to spend some quality time with my family and loves one.. of course, i did not heed mum's advice to take up some part time or weekend job.. im working enough for myself to survive and have some fun.. happiness is to be contended with what you have.. enjoy life and do what you want before you get too old.. 0 comments ![]() ![]() dreamed of racing on 9:52 am <-------------------------------------------------------> Tuesday, 14 October 2008
