Thursday, 28 May 2009 Sakka asked the Buddha: "Do different religious teachers head for the same goal or practice the same disciplines or aspire to the same thing?" "No, Sakka, they do not. And why? This world is made up of myriad different states of being, and people adhere to one or another of these states and become tenaciously possessive of them, saying, 'This alone is true, everything else is false.' It is like a territory that they believe is theirs. So all religious teachers do not teach the same goal or the same discipline, nor do they aspire to the same thing. "But if you find truth in any religion or philosophy, then accept that truth without prejudice." -Digha Nikaya if you do make research on the different religions, you may have heard some religions mentioned that all upright religions are more or less similiar.. the only strong deny to this i know of is the christian.. in fact, buddhism and christian are the most opposed religion.. chrisitan believe there's a creater God, other religions do also believe there's a almighty God.. thus some people do believe that the God in christian and other religions are the same.. the only 2 very different religion is christian and buddhism.. chrisitian believe that their God is the only one God, all other "Gods" are but disguise of devil.. buddhism belief is totally opposite.. there is no almighty God at all.. buddhism do believe in God but the Gods in buddhism is countless and non of them is almighty.. now come the interesting part.. christian do not believe that all religions are more or less similiar.. but buddhism do.. buddhism is very "religion friendly".. what more interesting is buddhism can explain why the various religions are similiar.. well, actually nothing in this world cannot be explain by buddhism.. as i mentioned earlier buddhism is a "truth" religion.. everything is in connection in this world thus one truth lead to another.. i'd heard many highly honoured monks said that if a person have the opportunity to really understand buddhism, he'll surely make up his mind to be a buddhist himself.. buddhism believe all human have the wisdom within and can find the truth themselves.. the only obstacle is does he have the chance or fate to understand buddhism.. since some people claimed that all religions are the same.. so can they have more then one religion? i guess none of them would agree.. well, buddhism allow.. yes, buddhism allow a buddhist to have more then one religion.. you might ask what truth is there in buddhism then.. although buddhism allow buddhist to accept other religions but in actual fact no buddhist will do that.. an e.g. will be: Alex want to visit the new asia bar in swissotel, there're 2 lift A and B. Lift A bring you straight to the 71th storey, while lift B bring you to 30th storey.. would you take lift B and then climb all the way up to 71th storey? happy birthday to ml.. 0 comments
