Try new 5Cs With the price spikes in property and cars, one cannot help but feel that life in Singapore is getting costlier and more stressful. Add to that the appeal to reproduce - to stem a declining birth rate - and it feels like we are being squeezed from all sides. The pursuit of the 5Cs - cash, credit card, car, country club membership and condo - is driving the obsession to work, work and work, and not fall behind in the rat race. Perhaps it is time to offer a different solution and lessen the stress in life. If we understand that none of our possessions will matter when we die, and we cannot take them with us, and that we cannot really decide what happens to our legacy, perhaps the material things in life will seem less important. Will owning a bigger house or a nicer car make a bigger difference in life than a loving family? What is the price and cost of fighting for every dollar in exchange for a stressful life? When we die, will our last thoughts be about the house we dreamt about and the unfinished assignments at work, or will they be about our loved ones? We will have lived a sad, empty life if we are surrounded by things we own, but no one we love. So how about a different set of 5Cs: care, concern, compassion, communication and contentment. Can we be content with what we have, and instead turn to our loved ones? Forget the Tweets and Facebook and ask ourselves when was the last time we talked to a friend face to face. Life in 21st century Singapore is stressful, but with a fresh set of 5Cs, we may yet make our days happy. 0 comments ![]() ![]() dreamed of racing on 12:19 pm <-------------------------------------------------------> Tuesday, 13 April 2010 Joke of The Month A couple were invited to a swanky family masked fancy dress Halloween party. The wife got a terrible headache and told her husband to go to the party alone. He, being a devoted husband, protested, but she argued and said she was going to take some aspirin and go to bed and there was no need for his good time to be spoiled by not going. So he took his costume and away he went. The wife, after sleeping soundly for about an hour, woke without pain and as it was still early, decided to go to the party. As her husband didn't know what her costume was, she thought she would have some fun by watching her husband to see how he acted when she was not with him. So she joined the party and soon spotted her husband in his costume, cavorting around on the dance floor, dancing with every nice "chick" he could and copping a little feel here and a little kiss there. His wife went up to him and being a rather seductive babe herself, he left his new partner high and dry and devoted his time to her. She let him go as far as he wished, naturally, since he was her husband. After more drinks he finally whispered a little proposition in her ear and she agreed, so off they went to one of the cars and had passionate intercourse in the back seat. Just before unmasking at midnight, she slipped away and went home and put the costume away and got into bed, wondering what kind of explanation he would make up for his outrageous behaviour. She was sitting up reading when he came in, so she asked what kind of time he had. "Oh, the same old thing. You know I never have a good time when you're not there." Then she asked, "Did you dance much?" He replied, "I'll tell you, I never even danced one dance. When I got there, I met Pete, Bill Brown and some other guys, so we went into the spare room and played poker all evening." "You must have looked really silly wearing that costume playing poker all night!" she said with unashamed sarcasm. To which the husband replied, "Actually, I gave my costume to your Dad, apparently he had the time of his life." 0 comments ![]() ![]() dreamed of racing on 8:23 pm <-------------------------------------------------------> Monday, 12 April last year i wrote about climate changing and disasters that make history record.. recently, i came across this documentary which elaborate more about our kind mother earth who had turned angry finally.. by all our abuses.. 2009 is a nature conscious year.. with every new record our mother earth bring to us make the world leaders really come together and think: are we really too much to her? i know i said this before, but again, everyone can do a part.. and with everyone effort, all our small efforts accumulate to help our earth.. recycle, save energy and eat less meat.. before anyone rebuke me, i do eat less meat now.. i try to be vegetarian during breakfast and lunch.. i cycle to work everyday and take public transport if bus/mrt can reach my destination.. i only switch on my fan at night, aircon occasionally during the hottest month of the year.. its everyone responsibility to help save the earth for i can see that there'll be no third world war.. but the "Earth War" against us.. earth will be striking us back in term of natural disasters.. don't be surprised when singapore had its first massive all round island flood.. sea level is increasing every year.. by 2050, singapore may not exist! or massive earth quakes so strong and nearer to singapore that it crumbled our buildings.. time is rushing, our immediate children will face this angry mother earth.. we may even experience it if we manage to live longer.. actually, we can already feel the pinch.. why does it suddenly snow during summer.. why does the sky suddenly turned black in the day and rain for days? cause and effect, everything happen for a reason.. 0 comments ![]() ![]() dreamed of racing on 4:15 pm <-------------------------------------------------------> Saturday, 10 April 2010 the govt. is now blaming singaporean for high hdb flat price.. recently, resales flat had hit a record high of $1 million.. thanks to the govt. for introducing so many foreigners into our country.. im ok with the foreigners coming to singapore.. but the govt lack the insight to build enough housing for them.. sharp rise in flats demand blow up the price of resales flats.. indirectly increasing the price of new hdb flats.. price of new flat had increased many times over the years from $35k to current $350k.. and our salary? not even twice of what we used to earn.. and here what hdb claimed: 1. new hdb flats are priced below market rate.. lolz, yes it is priced below the $1 million resales flat in Quessway! 2. household income had rose over the years and 80% of new flat buyer are able to service the housing loan entirely using their cpf.. how about the other 20% or those who can barely make end meet? housing is for everyone and not only for the rich or above average income family.. currently, singapore has one of the priciest public housing in the world.. hdb flat is being deemed "afforadable" because of cpf being used to service the loan for 30 years! so, you need 30 long years to get the cheapest housing in singapore.. lolz.. marriage alone consist huge expenses and an average new couple can barely make ends meet.. furthermore in the past, cpf is entirely for retirement usage.. there will not be enough money in the cpf for retirement if one used all of it to service a 30 years loan.. singaporean are marrying late into their 30s.. after the 30 years loan, they're in the 60s, and most of them will have to rely on their cpf, but realised that they had used up most of it for their housing.. not mentioning that in this 30 long years, everything have to be OK for us to be able to service the loan.. any point of time when the economy go down or retrenchment rise, how can we make sure that we can service the huge loan from hdb? really, a smart singaporean have to think of alternative(country) for retirement.. govt. should not attempt to make profit from selling new flat to first time buyers.. hdb shoud seriously look into producing more flats and reducing the price of new flats, especially for those newly wed.. more insights here.. 0 comments ![]() ![]() dreamed of racing on 2:42 am <-------------------------------------------------------> Friday, 9 April 2010 i believe most of you had received a small booklet and a CD in your letter box from the govt to urge people to help in global warming by switching to vegetarian or eating less meat.. all of us can help to do juz a small part and the result will be enormous.. Many Buddhist traditions encourage vegetarianism. Although this practice is primarily based on the wish to nourish compassion toward animals, it also offers many health benefits. Now we also know that when we eat vegetarian, we protect the Earth and help reduce the greenhouse effect that is causing her serious and irreversible damage. Even if you cannot be 100 percent vegetarian, being a part-time vegetarian and consuming a more plant-based diet is already better for your own health as well as the health of our shared planet. You may want to start by eating vegetarian for a few days a month, or you can eat vegetarian only for breafast and lunch every day. This way, you are already more than half vegetarian. If you feel that you cannot eliminate animal products from your diet for even one meal, simply reducing the portion of meat and eliminating processed meats like bacon, sausages, and ham can lower your risk of colon cancer and your risk of dying an early death from heart disease, cancer, or other causes. This is a good first step to adopting a more plant-based, healthful, environmentally friendly diet. Using mindfulness to look more deeply at what you want can make it much easier to make such changes, because you realize the benefits they can bring to the planet and yourself - lower weight, lower risk of colon cancer and heart disease, and more energy for doing the things you enjoy. We are 'interbeings': we and our environment are interdependent. And even small changes on our part can have a large impact when combined with others. Our market economy is driven primarily by consumer demand. As a population, if a large number of people make even small moves to eat less meat and more plant-based foods, the livestock industry will shrink. Over time, farmers will find other crops to support their livelihoods. Through such collective awakening, we can make a difference in our world. 0 comments ![]() ![]() dreamed of racing on 1:37 pm <-------------------------------------------------------> |
